HMP Risley staff will tackle a 54-mile trek over 24 hours in support of Army veterans all over the UK.

The team of staff who work on the Delta Wing at the Risley prison will participate in the Cateran Yomp, one of the toughest events of its kind, and will walk continuously for an entire day across the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland to raise funds for veteran charity Army Benevolent Fund.

Among the thousands of participants will be HMP Risley’s team, including officer Thomas Chisnall, custodial manager Chris Grace and prison governor Andy Fletcher.

They will tackle The Yomp, which is based on an infamous long-distance, military training march, on June 8 and 9.

And up until then they will be fundraising to drum up as many donations for the charity as possible.

The Army Benevolent Fund is The Army’s national charity and provides support for families of soldiers past and present.

Its work includes helping wounded soldiers adapt to life after service, assisting elderly veterans, and helping veterans find work post service.
