IT was certainly a fruitful weekend for Warrington Athletics Club at this weekend’s Cheshire Athletics Championships.

More than 30 medals were won between the club’s 39 members taking part over the two-day competition in Macclesfield.

Five of them went to Thomas Darbyshire, who was the club’s most successful athlete at the championships, while Tallie Sze brought home three medals in the same under 15s age group.

There was even a Warrington “one-two-three” in the under 17s women’s 800m race as Hannah Hull won gold, with clubmates Sarah Ashcroft and Sinead Gregory winning silver and bronze respectively.

There was also Warrington representation at county championships for Greater Manchester and Merseyside over the weekend.

While running for first-claim club Bury AC, second-claim member Evie Elliot set two big personal bests at the Greater Manchester Championships – she won silver in the 300m hurdles in 47.92secs while she also came fourth in the 80m hurdles in 12.44secs.

On the roads, Claire Andrew was the second-fastest woman aged over 45 to finish the Alderley Edge Bypass 10km race on Sunday – she placed 89th overall and 11th in the women’s rankings having clocked 40mins 40secs.
