A LAW firm has warned businesses to avoid falling foul of complicated employment regulations when making job cuts.

Mace and Jones, based in King Street, Knutsford, said firms must plan redundancies carefully during the credit crunch.

“Employers can walk into a minefield of costly and time-consuming problems if they mismanage the process,” said partner Phil Allen.

“This is a highly sensitive process where it is easy to fall foul of the legislation.”

The warning comes amid suggestions that more than a quarter of companies in the UK are planning redundancies.

A survey of 1,200 firms by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development recently revealed 27% of employers hoped to make job cuts.
