A MAN was threatened at knifepoint and had thousands of pounds stolen from him by a gang in Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old victim was walking along Skerton Road when three men approached him from behind. Two offenders pinned him to the ground while the third held a knife to his throat.

They searched the victim and stole a substantial amount of money that was in an envelope.

The only description the man was able to provide of the attackers was that they all wore dark clothing and balaclavas.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Yates, based at Stretford’s robbery unit, said: "These offenders subjected the victim to a traumatic ordeal, forcibly pinning him to the ground, threatening him with a knife and then stealing a substantial amount of cash.

"Luckily, he was not physically injured by the weapon because we have all seen the devastating consequences carrying a knife can cause.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward so we can progress with our inquiries."

Anyone who witnessed or has information about the incident, which occurred sometime between 11.45pm on Tuesday, August 19 and 12.10am on Wednesday, August 20, is asked to call the robbery unit on 0161 856 7553 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
