DIG out your hats for Warrington’s wedding of the year after Big Brother star Mario Marconi proposed to Lisa Appleton live on national TV.

Mario was allowed back into the famous house on Sunday though the love birds were separated by the doors from the living room to the garden as Mario took up his place on top of a heart shaped stand.

Dressed in a tuxedo with the engagement ring in a rose shaped box the 43-year-old used boards with his proposal written on them to pop the question.

The message read: “Lisa, I am sorry to say you’re single no more as I have spoken to your Daddy. Now I would like to marry you.”

Lisa, aged 40, was completely oblivious to the stunt that was about to happen as she sat in the living room telling housemates about her and Mario met.

She recalled how the pair first met in the car park of the former Mr Smith’s nightclub when she was buying a crystal ball from him through an online auction site.

Mario, real name Shaun Astbury, had Lisa’s engagement ring engraved with their names, the date of their engagement and BB9, in honour of the show where the proposal happened.

Viewers watched the proposal live on Channel 4 as it took place just after 12.30pm on the show Big Brother’s Little Brother.

Speaking to presenter George Lamb before his proposal Mario said: “We have always discussed it. It is four years down the line and it’s time things were right.”

Mario and Lisa were the first couple to enter the Big Brother house together and although they were split up after five weeks by the public voting out Mario, Lisa has remained in the house for more than six weeks.
