No decision yet over empty club

THE FUTURE of empty clubhouse buildings at Knutsford Bowling Club is still unclear.

Landowner Randle Brooks has still not decided what to do with the empty space at the Mereheath Lane club five months after bowlers moved into the former snooker room because the whole building was too difficult and expensive to run.

“Discussions are continuing,” said Mr Brooks’ spokesman, Graham Pike.

But he could not say whether developing the site on the outskirts of Knutsford was an option that might be considered.

“I don’t know,” he said.

Last week the premises showed no sign that anything had been changed at the club.

The bar area still contained chairs and tables and the snooker tables - previously used by three teams in the Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League - were still present but covered up.

In April, when the bowling club decided to downsize, Mr Pike said a decision about the future of the clubhouse might be made in a few months.

Mr Brooks recently enlisted advisers HOW Planning in preparing plans to allow 42 acres of his land near Parkgate to be developed.

But Mr Pike declined the Knutsford Guardian’s proposal of a meeting to discuss Mr Brooks’ plans for the rest of his land in the town, which includes the Heath.

“I don’t think that would be helpful,” he said.
