CONGLETON Town Council has spoken of its shock at the sudden death of senior halls officer David Hughes.
Mr Hughes, aged 38, died at the weekend, and had transferred to the town council from Congleton Borough Council in June.
“Everyone at the council is shocked and saddened at the tragic death of David Hughes,” said the council.
“Dave transferred to the town council in June, but many members and officers have known him for much longer.”
Town mayor Denis Murphy said: “Our priority at this time is to offer support to David’s family, and to ensure the town hall services continue to run smoothy.”
Mr Hughes joined the borough council in August 1999 as Congleton Town Hall manager.
“The town hall is at the heart of the community, and David played a big part in ensuring it thrived for use by local people,” said borough Head of Healthy Communities, John Gerring.
“He was incredibly committed, and was always willing to go the extra mile to help his customers and colleagues.
“David was a regular member of the borough council football and golf teams.
“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the borough and town councils, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
