MYSTERY surrounds the identity of a man, whose body was pulled out of the Trent and Mersey Canal in Acton Bridge on Saturday.
A passer-by alerted the emergency services after spotting the man, believed to be in his 60s, shortly before 3.15pm.
Police immediately launched an investigation but stopped it after deciding the man had not been murdered.
Locals suspect the man might have lived on one of the houseboats moored up on the canal.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “There are no suspicious circumstances.
“A coroner’s file will be prepared in due course.”
