TRAFFORD midwives have welcomed the launch of a public debate about the future of maternity services in the borough.
Trafford Primary Care Trust invited 18 residents to take part in a 'citizens’ jury' event from December 3 to 5, and give their views on whether there should be a midwife-led maternity unit at Trafford General.
Such a facility would replace the current maternity unit, which was earmarked for closure following the Making it Better public consultation in 2006, when primary care trusts across Greater Manchester decided there should be fewer maternity units providing care by doctors.
