Tiredness can kill our chances, warns Wood

PAUL Wood says Warrington Wolves must avoid putting themselves in the vulnerable position of being tired at the end of Sunday’s match at Castleford.

Wolves looked visibly jaded as Hull KR came from 34-18 down to score three late tries and clinch a shock 36-34 victory at The Halliwell Jones Stadium at the weekend.

Jimmy Lowes felt that was a result of a poor use of possession giving Wolves too much defending to do throughout the match and Wood says they must not repeat that mistake at The Jungle.

Wood, who says he felt fresh on his return from a long injury lay-off, said: “We probably used a bit of energy that we didn’t need to use because we picked a couple of wrong options at bad times.

“That made us defend for periods that we really shouldn’t have been defending for.

“It’s tough when you’re tired and you’ve got 100 things running through your mind.

“But it’s part and parcel of the game and you’ve just got to get on with it as best you can.

“Sometimes you can try 100 per cent and give your all but, if you’ve not got the energy to do it, it does become really difficult.

“We’re just working on doing the right things at training so we don’t put ourselves in that position.”
