Grant - the special one

2:11pm Tuesday 26th August 2008

NEIL Baker believes Joel Grant can be THE man for Crewe Alexandra.

The assistant Alex boss says they could have “one hell of a player” after his stunning winner against Walsall.

"We have been waiting for something like that from Joel,” he said.

“We have been working with him on his finishing in training and we said that if he adds goals to his game then we have got one hell of a player on our hands.

"We're not as chuffed at times with his defending but he looks like he could be a special player.

With Grant and Byron Moore deployed as wingers, it’s brought an exciting aspect to Crewe’s play with action hi-tempo against The Saddlers.

“It was an exciting game,” added Baker.

“Too exciting for us but not for the crowd.

“Who would we have taken off for a substitution?

“We were still looking dangerous late on and should really have wrapped up the game much earlier.

“We didn’t manage to get a third or fourth but we should have done.

“I have been saying now for a few weeks that we have signed some good attacking players and I think that showed.”

Their first three points of the season lifts Crewe off bottom spot.

“We have played two good teams before today and last week was encouraging even though we had lost,” continued Baker.

“To see the players training, we had high hopes.

“We came into the game in good spirits and that is great to watch.

“We were under a little bit of pressure but I always thought at 2-1 that we would go on to score a third rather than concede an equaliser.”
