THE opening date has been announced for a new megastore in the town.

It comes following the completion of exterior construction work on new units at Junction Nine Retail Park.

Work began late last year to complete work which ceased years ago to extend Junction Nine Retail Park.

The units to the northern end were just a metal shell when work began, but they are now complete externally – except signage which is yet to be installed.

Work is also underway internally to fit out the units for their new tenant.

Home Bargains has now confirmed it will be moving into the huge end unit – vacating its current premises at the retail park.

Posters have been attacked to the windows of the new units stating that a ‘big new store’ is opening soon, with recruitment for jobs now open.

Another sign at the retail park confirms that the new Home Bargains megastore will be opening on Saturday, August 24.

Another business signed up to open at Junction Nine Retail Park is Poundland, although it is not clear which unit this will be in.

Planning documents submitted prior to work starting suggest that the new Home Bargains store will include a café.

They also suggest that a fourth phase of the retail park, on vacant land to the very north, could be developed going forward.

Documents add: “The land is part of a key but underutilised gateway into the town centre, as the A49 Winwick Road runs parallel to the site, connecting the M62 with Warrington town centre and the surrounding area.

“The retail park has vacancies, albeit that the position has improved in recent years through significant investment, with further occupations to follow in the northern part of the site, known as phases three and four.”
