TRAIN drivers are due to stage more strikes next week, causing disruption across the north west – including to Warrington commuters.

Aslef, the Train drivers union, have revealed more industrial action will take place, with many trainlines expected to cancel all services.

The ongoing action is part of a dispute over pay and working conditions, which has been ongoing since July 2022.

From Monday, May 6, union members will not work overtime, causing some services to be cancelled or reduced as drivers refuse to work rest days.

This overtime ban run until Saturday, May 11, and customers are being advised to check services before they travel.

On Wednesday, May 8, Avanti West Coast and East Midlands Railway services will be cancelled as part of the industrial action.

This is due to impact commuters travelling to and from Warrington Central and Warrington Bank Quay.

On Thursday, all Northern services will be cancelled, as well as TransPennie Express – which will impact commuters at all Warrington stations.

“Unfortunately, the action by Aslef on Thursday, May 9 will see our network grind to a halt,” said Tricia Williams, chief operating officer for Northern.

“On the days when strikes are taking place with other train operators, we will do everything we can to keep our serviced moving and absorb those extra passengers trying to travel across the region.

“We can only apologise, once again, for the disruption this action by Aslef will cause to people in the north of England.”

Other services across the country will also be striking next week and passengers are being advised to check before they travel.
