A LUCKY bingo player claimed a prize of more than £56,000 at St Helens' Mecca last weekend.

The club on Kirkland Street erupted into applause on Saturday evening after the huge win during Mecca’s Big Bonus game.

Exclusive to Mecca, the Big Bonus game jackpot keeps growing until a player claims a full house on a pre-specified number of calls.

The player told staff that she and her family had made a last-minute decision to go to the club after receiving a flyer through the post.

On arrival she decided to play the £1 Big Bonus game and when all her numbers came up she initially thought she’d won the local club prize of £1,600 and didn’t realise that the national jackpot, which had built up to more than £54,000, had also dropped.

Peter Munster, assistant manager at Mecca St Helens, said: “The whole club applauded, and customers went over to congratulate her.

"It’s an emotional feeling when we have a big winner, and some of the staff were even crying. The customer was so shocked that after confirming her win, she decided to go home to let it all sink in!”

Mecca launched its Big Bonus game, which costs just £1 to play, last year. Exclusive to Mecca, the game is played twice a day in Mecca’s clubs nationwide, with the jackpot growing steadily until it’s won.
